New Program Launches to Prepare Future Teachers
March 13, 2024

Transform your passion into purpose with Meridian Technology Center’s new Early Care Development and Teacher Prep program.

“We are excited to launch the Early Care and Teacher Prep program,” said Sara Collins, Director of Instruction. “This program will provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in education and make a positive impact.”

The program covers child development, early childhood education principles, curriculum planning and classroom management.

Students will also gain hands-on experience. For example, they’ll have internships and practicums in early childhood education settings such as daycare centers and classrooms.

“If you’re someone who has a passion for working with children and seeing the light bulb come on, this program is a good fit for you,” Collins said.

Training Future Teachers

This new program is only open to high school students. It offers three career majors for students to specialize in: Teacher Assistant, Teacher Prep and Master Teacher.

The Teacher Assistant major prepares students to provide instructional assistance to children under the direction of a licensed teacher in early care and education facilities. The  Teacher Prep major prepares students to become teachers. Students in this major will learn theory, create lesson plans, and put their plans into action.

Students in the Master Teacher major are preparing to be licensed teachers in early care and education facilities. They will be responsible for the general supervision, development, and education of children.

Early Care Development and Teacher Prep will officially launch August 2024. For more information about this program visit meridiantech.edu/programs/early-care-development-teacher-prep.
