Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by George McKeown - January 28, 2021, noon - 1:00pm
Presenter: Anna Irwin
Have you ever found yourself stretched too thin? Do you simultaneously feel overworked and underutilized? Are you often busy but not productive? Do you feel like your time is constantly being hijacked by other people’s agendas? If you answered yes to any of these, the concepts discussed in Greg McKeown’s book “Essentialism” can offer you a way out. This book explores a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution towards the things that really matter. Essentialism is not one more thing - it’s a whole new way of doing everything. It’s about doing less, but better, in every area of our lives. Essentialism is a movement whose time has come. Join us for an engaging book club discussion regarding the concepts the book explores, and how we can actively utilize them in our day-to-day life.
Never Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It – March 25th, noon to 1pm
Presenter: Anna Irwin
Life is a series of negotiations you should be prepared for: buying a car, negotiating a salary, buying a home, deliberating with your partner. In “Never Split the Difference”, Chris Voss, a former international hostage negotiator for the FBI, offers a new field-tested approach to high-stakes negotiations - whether in the boardroom or at home. This book takes you inside the world of high-stakes negotiations and into Voss' head, revealing the skills that helped him and his colleagues succeed where it mattered most: in saving lives. In this practical guide, he shares the nine effective principles - counterintuitive tactics and strategies – we all can use to become more persuasive in both our professional and personal lives. Make plans to join in the book club discussion so you can take your emotional intelligence and intuition to the next level with the concepts explored in this book.
