One of Oklahoma’s Top Workplaces
December 12, 2016

The Oklahoman has recognized Meridian Technology Center as one of the Top Workplaces in Oklahoma.

In addition to earning a spot on the list for a third year in a row, Meridian employees can celebrate moving from number seven to number four in the midsize business category. Areas of notable increase include questions related to workplace culture and supervisory support. The school also received a special award for Training.

The center’s 100 plus employees will tell you that their motivation is not the statewide recognition; it is their desire to improve lives of their students and the communities the school serves.

“Every employee at Meridian is dedicated to helping students and clients succeed. Whether someone is answering the phones, keeping the campus looking great or working directly with students or clients, we know that our contributions matter,” said Radiologic Technology Instructor Emily Wheeler.

Students and clients aren’t the only ones who benefit from Meridian’s workplace culture.

Among the workplace changes that came from feedback were alternative staff meeting times so more people could attend. Survey findings also prompted Meridian to expand professional development opportunities for staff members. With the addition of campus-wide Strengths-based Gallup assessments, staff members had the opportunity to identify their natural talents, and then they spent the year learning how their strengths work with the strengths of their coworkers.

Computer Aided Drafting Instructor Russell Frick indicated this type of support is what’s kept him at Meridian for nearly 25 years.

“When we’re asked to provide feedback on something our school leaders take our input seriously. Everyone has a voice here,” he said. “Knowing that your opinion matters makes it easy to come to work every day. I’ve been here as long as I have not only because I love what I do, but I love the people I work with.”

The Top Workplaces designations are based solely on employee feedback. Meridian employees completed a survey that was created by WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a leading research firm on organizational health and employee engagement. Employees were asked to evaluate the company’s direction, execution of ideas, connectedness to the organization, role satisfaction, supervision and employee benefits.

“It’s an honor to once again be selected as one of Oklahoma’s Top Workplaces,” said Superintendent/CEO Dr. Douglas R. Major. “Our mission is to educate, enrich lives and secure economic success. That’s something that truly is a team effort.”
