Primary Function

Assist with summer maintenance as assigned by Supervisor.

Perform all phases of general, aesthetic, and preventive maintenance within supervisor’s specific guidelines. Responsible for assisting with projects and maintenance of the residential life buildings, rooms and stairways. Duties will include replacing light bulbs, caulking tubs and sinks, ceiling fan repair, tighten closet doors and shelves, replace smoke detector batteries, thermostat batteries, drip pans, shower heads, plumbing leaks. Check windows, window blinds, diffusers, duct work, exhaust fans and window screens. Duties include a wide variety of maintenance and cleaning tasks. Retrieve materials needed by various crafts to perform their duties. Perform demolition and disassembly work.

Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies. Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions. This may require work during nonbusiness hours which include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and when the University is closed.

Employee in this position is required to work overtime when work requires. Employee in this position is required to work shift work when work cannot be accomplished during regular hours, and when the Management staff deems necessary.

Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, etc.). These items are not for personal use.

Work will be performed in dirty, noisy, and cramped working areas. Position may be exposed to the same dangers as the crafts they will be assisting.
This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally

Required Skills

Required:

One year of prior successful work experience. One year of post-secondary education may be substituted for one year of experience.

Job requires some mechanical aptitude.

Have before hire, and maintain after, a valid driver’s license. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.

This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.

Ability to become proficient in the use of “AiM” computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.

Preferred:

One year of prior successful maintenance work experience in the building trades or technical field at a university, commercial or industrial building maintenance organization.

Hours

Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m

Salary Range

10.00 – 10.65, Hourly
