Description of Duties: Responsible for assisting the Director, TRIO Talent Search, in the development, implementation, and assessment of initiatives to promote high school graduation and postsecondary enrollment while following all federal TRIO guidelines. This position, which is subject to funding, reports to the Director, TRIO Talent Search. Manage a caseload of approximately 250 low-income and potential first-generation college students. Identify and recruit potential participants. Provide academic, college, career, financial aid advisement and other individual assistance to participants to promote high school graduation, completion of a rigorous course of study, postsecondary enrollment, and degree attainment. Assist participants in completing admission and financial aid forms. Coordinate and conduct presentations and workshops for participants, parents, target schools and community groups that promote high school completion and postsecondary enrollment and knowledge of the TRIO programs. Plan and coordinate campus visits and other cultural and learning activities for participants. Help supervise and transport participants on campus visits and other cultural and learning activities for participants. Create and maintain participant files and enter data into the project database. Establish and maintain an excellent working relationship with personnel at target schools. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Some night and weekend hours required. Perform other related duties as assigned. May supervise part-time hourly or work study employees. Work under the general supervision of the Director, TRIO Talent Search.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree; One (1) year experience in higher or secondary education, or working with disadvantaged populations such as potential first-generation college students and/or low-income students, or related experience. Light carrying up to 10 lbs. and light lifting up to 10 lbs. required. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping.
Desired Qualifications: Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or Social Work. Three (3) years’ experience in higher or secondary education. Past TRIO experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of academic advising and college, career, financial aid and economic literacy activities and related services.
