Paints interior offices, classrooms, hallways, stairwells, and furnishings. Scrape, sand, prep and clean all areas to be painted. Spreads drop cloths to protect areas from paint. Tapes and beds new sheetrock. Patches holes with taping mud, plaster, or spackle. Applies various types of materials such as alkyds, acrylics, urethane, epoxies, lacquer, vinyls, and stains with brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to walls, ceilings, floors, window sash, doors and other furnishings. Mixes paints and matches colors of paint. Removes old paint, sets and glazes windows, may be required to cut glass. Loads and unloads equipment.
Must be able to perform snow and ice removal tasks, and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management; therefore, deeming you as essential personnel requiring you to come into work regardless of the weather conditions. Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies. Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions. This may require work during nonbusiness hours which include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and when the University is closed.
The incumbent will be required to provide their own basic hand tools and maintain them in good working condition.
Job requirements include occasional use of respiratory equipment. Therefore, individual is required to pass a medical exam to assure physical ability to wear, use, and perform work in respirator equipment.
Overtime is an essential function of this position and may require work during non-business hours which include evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.
Nearly all paints and thinners are rated hazardous.
Work area may contain fumes and dust.
Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, or high-lift equipment.
This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally
Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, etc.). These items are not for personal use.
High School Graduate/GED with four years of prior successful work experience in the building trades or technical field at a building organization; or two years post-secondary education in the building trades or technical field with two years of prior successful maintenance experience in a university, commercial or industrial building maintenance organization.
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver’s license. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
Ability to become proficient in the use of “AiM” Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
Must work safely and promote a safe work environment.
Two years post-secondary education in the building trades with three years of prior successful work experience at the journeyman painter level in the building trades or technical field at a university, commercial or industrial building maintenance organization.
