HVAC Test Adjust and Balance Technician (TAB)

Primary Function

ES2 is seeking a Test & Balance Technician to join our growing team of trade professionals. Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) service is an important part of air and water delivery systems. TAB technicians make sure that air and water are delivered efficiently, quietly, and safely throughout a building.

Job Summary

•Perform TAB services for air and hydronic heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in new construction and remodel projects.

•Test and balance HVAC systems using established NEBB procedures with the company provided testing equipment, manufacturer software, and general math skills.

•Duties include measuring and adjusting airflows and recording operating data such as current, voltage, rpm, model and serial number, etc.

•Read and interpret system blueprints, specifications, and performance data to analyze system performance for compliance with contract documents. Isolate problems and implement adjustments where necessary.

•Use, calibrate, and maintain the security of specialized tools including temperature & humidity transmitters, airdata multimeter, hydrodata multimeter, flow hood, pitot tube, tachometer, voltmeter, pressure transducers, etc.

•Document all test results with true and accurate methods using company documentation procedures.

•Communicate any deficiencies or recommendations to the supervisor and client continuously throughout the project.

•Coordinate closely with other construction trades such as electrical, mechanical, and temperature control contractors, as well as the design team.

•Uphold the company’s values and perform with a strong work ethic and driving sense of urgency.

•Follow all company, job site, and OSHA safety policies and practices.

•Continually improve and develop advanced technical skills to better serve the customer, which may entail seeking out reference manuals and attending educational seminars with the support of the company

Required Skills


•Demonstrated ability to successfully fulfill the job requirements as summarized above.

•High school education or equivalent required.

•Knowledge and experience with typical HVAC systems, sheet metal, and TAB industry tools preferred. Trade school or industry experience a plus.
•Willing to train promising candidates.

•Have or be willing to work toward a NEBB TAB technician certification as required for this position.

•Proficient in general math skills required to use NEBB Test and Balance formulas.

•Able to maintain a professional appearance and consistently communicate in a clear, professional, and persuasive manner, both verbally and in written communications.

•Availability to serve customer needs by responding quickly and potentially working overtime, varied shift hours, and out of town when needed.

•Production requires the ability to lift, push or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. This job requires the ability to climb, kneel, squat or work at high altitudes or confined spaces in order to deliver the scope of work.

•Competent and capable of maintaining basic computer requirements, including working with Microsoft Office and other common business and industry applications.

•Candidate must have a clean driving record, be free of any felony convictions, and able to pass federal background checks as required to work on secure government facilities


Full Time

Salary Range

$12.00 – $16.00 per hour
