Groundskeeper I

Primary Function

Perform routine labor and equipment operation to support maintenance and development of University grounds. Routine labor to support other Facilities Management departments.

Must be able to perform snow and ice removal tasks, and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management, therefore, deeming you as essential personnel requiring you to come into work regardless of weather conditions. This may require work during nonbusiness hours that include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and when the University is closed.

This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.

Will be required to work outdoors during extreme heat and cold, high levels of dust; operating hazardous equipment, hazardous noise levels and handling hazardous odoriferous chemicals.

Employee in this position is required to be on rotating standby for emergencies and/or any other event after 3:30 p.m. weekday, weekend and holidays. Employee in this position is required to work overtime after 3:30 p.m. when work requires. Employee in this position is required to work shift work when work can’t be accomplished during regular hours, and when the Management staff deems necessary. Overtime is an essential function of this position and may require work during non-business hours which include evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.

Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc). These items are not for personal use.

Required Skills

Required:
High School diploma/GED.
One year of groundskeeping, farming, and/or outdoor construction labor.
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver’s license. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.

Ability to become proficient in the use of “AiM” Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.

Must work safely and promote a safe environment.

Hours

Monday – Friday 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m

Salary Range

10.00 – 11.25, Hourly
