Electrician II

Primary Function

Repair and maintain all types of interior and exterior electrical systems and equipment; to include panel boards, breakers, fuses, fire and security systems, public address systems, lighting, and mechanical and HVAC equipment. Ability to interpret blueprints and schematic drawings.

Repair and maintain all type of motors and controllers to include bearings, seals, motor leads, rebuild shafts, troubleshoot motor integrity, and motor drives.

The incumbent may be required to provide their own basic hand tools and maintain them in good working condition.

Must be able to perform snow and ice removal tasks, and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management regardless of the weather conditions. Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies. Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions. This may require work during nonbusiness hours which include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and when the University is closed.

Employee in this position is required to be on rotating standby for emergencies and/or any other event after 5 p.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays. Employee in this position is required to work overtime when work requires. Employee in this position is required to work shift work when work can’t be accomplished during regular hours, and when the Management staff deems necessary. Overtime is an essential function of this position and may require work during nonbusiness hours which include evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.

This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.

Position may involve exposure to the following physical dangers and/or environmental hazards: noise, wet vaults, tunnels, working in inclement weather, and dusty conditions. Working with electrical voltages on ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and within cramped areas and confined spaces.

Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, respirator, arc flash apparel, safety glasses, etc.) These items are not for personal use.

Required Skills

Required:
High School diploma/GED with four years of prior successful work experience in the building trades or technical field at a building maintenance organization; or two years post-secondary education in the building trades or technical field with two years of prior successful maintenance experience in a university, commercial or industrial building maintenance organization.

Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver’s license. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.

Commercial, industrial, and residential electrical experience. Bending conduit, industrial electronics, all types of lighting systems and controls. Working on ladders and heights, variable speed drive repair, electrical calculations, interpretation of National Electric Code.

Ability to become proficient in the use of Aim Computerized Maintenance management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.

Must work safely and promote a safe environment.

Preferred:

Two years post-secondary education in the building trades with three years of prior successful work experience involving electrical maintenance, motor repair, electronics, troubleshooting controls and other electrical maintenance in the building trades or technical field at a university, commercial or industrial building maintenance organization.

Electrical Journeyman’s license obtained and maintained during the duration of employment

Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Salary Range

16.60 – 22.55, Hourly
