Business Unit Accountant

Primary Function

Exhibiting stewardship for the cooperative, the Business Unit Accountant professionally represents the cooperative in providing timely and accurate financial reports to management while supporting and leading the business unit accounting functions in the efficient handling of day to day operations. The position will also assist in other general accounting function required to carry out the goals and objectives of the finance department.

Core Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities described below are the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be all inclusive for this position.
 Perform general accounting and financial reporting functions for established strategic business units and assists with general accounting and financial reporting for Central Electric Cooperative.
 Directs the preparation and maintenance of the Business Unit Budgets and a variety of financial and statistical reports, records and files.
 Analyze financial information for the purpose of providing direction and support, making recommendations, maximizing use of funds and ensuring overall operations are within budget.
 Prepares cost-benefit analysis, cash flow analysis and impacts.
 Coordinates the preparation of the corporate annual report and information to external auditors.
 Identify, investigate and analyze potential operational improvement and make recommendations to management.
 Ensure timely payment of accounts payable and timely collection of accounts receivable Prepare and oversee routine account reconciliations.
 Conduct trainings in regard to budget procedures.
 Review and monitor contract terms, maintain contract templates, make language recommendations,
obligations and renewals to ensure accurate accounting of business units.
 Review and assist with insurance coverage for business units.

 Non-exempt
 Reports to Executive VP of Administration and Finance
 Decisions and duties are monitored and reviewed and have a moderate effect on the organization. Work
requires latitude of discretion and judgement for information, technology and/or equipment.
 Position has no formal supervisory responsibility for the work of others.

Specific requirements and competencies include:
 Solid Educational Background – Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting or finance with at
least 1-3 years related work experience required, Master’s Degree with an emphasis in accounting or
finance preferred; CPA or CMA preferred
 Must be proficient in excel
 Must have and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license
 Analytical Skills – Synthesizes complex or diverse information, collects and researches data, uses

workflows and procedures.
 Business Acumen – Understands business implications of decisions, conducts cost-benefit analyses,
