Pre-Engineering - STEM Academy

Push the limits of your imagination

The Pre-Engineering program is part of Meridian’s STEM Academy. Using science, technology, engineering and math, students in this program explore civil, chemical, mechanical and aerospace engineering. From building robots to airplanes, collaboration is key and students will often find themselves working with other programs to create new products and improve on the world around them. Students can begin this program as a sophomore.

About the STEM Academy at Meridian

We have partnered with Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a national program that provides transformative learning experiences for students and teachers across the country, to develop the STEM Academy. PLTW focuses on developing problem-solving skills by immersing students in real-world preparatory-level academics and is designed to prepare students for post-secondary studies.

The STEM Academy serves high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. An additional application is required for the STEM Academy. Entrance requirements include an application and interview process with career counselors. Students must be at or above grade level in reading and mathematics and demonstrate a high interest and/or aptitude in math and science. Applicants must have completed Algebra I with a grade of B or better. Candidates should have passed eighth-grade state tests in reading and mathematics and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

Starting as sophomore? Then enroll in the expanded career major that has 1440 hours. Juniors should sign up for the career major that has 960 hours.

This program offers a dynamic, interactive environment where students explore engineering concepts through real-world projects. Train on engineering design software, calibrate high-tech equipment, and build functional prototypes like flying airplanes. The Academy introduces students to diverse engineering career paths, from aerospace to architecture, while laying the groundwork for success in college engineering programs. Starting as a junior? Don’t worry, you can enroll in the Project Lead The Way Pre-Engineering (960) program.

Entrance Requirements

The Pre-Engineering program is a part of Meridian’s STEM Academy. An application and interview process with the instructors will take place. Students must be at or above grade level in reading and mathematics and demonstrate a high interest and/or aptitude in math and science. Applicants must have completed Algebra I with a grade of B or better. Candidates must have passed eighth grade state tests in reading and mathematics and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Candidates must be an upcoming sophomore or junior to apply. Please contact your high school counselor about enrollment.

Schedule is dependent upon successful completion of prerequisites.
