Computer Basic Series
Are you new to computers? Want to know more about how to use the different features in your Windows 10 computer? Join us for any or all of these Computer Basics lessons. We have structured the sessions to allow you to pick and choose only the lessons you would like to learn.
There is a one-time book charge of $ 17.00 that will be used for all the Computer Basic class lessons.
Bring your own Windows 10 laptop, if you have one. We have a limited number available to use on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please indicate on the enrollment if you need us to provide you a device.
Computer Basics – Lesson 1 Getting Started in Windows 10
THIS SESSION IS FULL – August 30th, 2019 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM, F
In this 2-hour session, you will discover how to Log in, navigate the Windows 10 interface, find existing Apps, and use your first App. Then you will explore the Solitaire, Weather and Calendar Apps on your Windows 10 device.
Computer Basics – Lesson 2 Using the Photo App
THIS SESSION IS FULL – September 6th, 2019 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM F
In this 2-hour session, you will focus on connecting your digital camera or your iPhone to your Windows 10 computer and import your photos. Using the Windows 10 Photo App, you will view, delete, crop, apply filter and more to your photos.
Computer Basics – Lesson 3 Using the Email App
October 4th, 2019 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM F
Email is a critical part of communication in today’s world. In this 2-hour session, you will connect your email account with the Windows 10 Mail App. Through guided-exploration, you will send, receive, open, read and delete your emails. You will also discover how to send photos, open attachments, and search for existing emails. You will need to bring your email logon name and password to class.
Computer Basics – Lesson 4 Using the Internet

The internet brings the entire world to you through your computer. In this 2-hour session, you will explore the internet using the Windows 10 Edge browser. You will navigate a site, use tabs, prepare to print a webpage, create shortcuts to favorites places, and find desired content using various Search Engines. Finally, we will wrap up with safe online shopping tips.
Computer Basics – Lesson 5 Videos, TV and Music

YouTube, TED Talks, Netflix and Crackle offer free and paid options for watching videos, movies and TV. You will discover how to search for titles of choice, play a video, and discuss how to setup your own account, if desired. Finally, you will explore ways to listen to music online.
Computer Basics – Lesson 6 Video Calls with Skype

In this 2-hour session, you will discover how to talk to friends and family in real time on video using Skype. You will setup a Skype account, add a profile picture, start and end a call, and discover safety tips.
Computer Basics – Lesson 7 Using File Explorer

Staying organized on your computer is vital for eliminating frustration. In this 2-hour session, you will discover how to work effectively with files and folders, organize your files, search for files and save your files to a flash drive.
Computer Basics – Lesson 8 Avoiding Computer Viruses & Scams

In this final lesson of the series, you will discover how to keep your computer protected from viruses plus how to avoid scams and phishing attacks. Finally, you will discover how to connect to a printer, scanner, webcam or other external device.
Microsoft Word – Lesson 1 Creating Simple Documents

In this 2-hour session, you will navigate the Word interface, enter and format text, set your margin and discuss the difference between SAVE and SAVE AS. Finally, you will use the Print Preview options to get the results that you want prior to printing.
Microsoft Word – Lesson 2 Formatting Simple Documents
August 27th, 2019 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM T
Now that you know how to create a document, you will add a professional touch using lists, designs and styles. You will insert a header and footer and add key elements to each. Finally, you will wrap text around an image and set appropriate page breaks.
Microsoft Excel – Lesson 1 Creating Simple Spreadsheets
September 10th, 2019 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM T
Discover how to get started creating your own spreadsheet using Excel. You will enter data, add rows and columns, and discuss the difference between SAVE and SAVE AS. Finally, you will add simple SUM and COUNT functions to your data.
We would like to make you aware of our school policy regarding tuition. All deposits paid for classes are applied toward your tuition and are non‑refundable unless the class is cancelled by Meridian Technology Center. If you are unable to attend, you will still be charged the deposit or the full cost of the class if it is less than $50. The balance of your tuition (if applicable) is due prior to the first class meeting and is non‑refundable.
