Dr. Douglas R. MajorDr. Douglas R. Major’s involvement in CareerTech began as an agriculture education student in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Through his membership in FFA he had the opportunity to serve the organization as both a local and state officer which helped shape his decision to enter the teaching profession.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education at Oklahoma State University, he taught agricultural education and served as the FFA Advisor for two years at Anadarko High School. In 1987, he had the opportunity to join Meridian Technology Center as an administrative intern, which led to 13 years of serving in various administrative capacities at the school. During his tenure at Meridian Technology Center, he also completed both his master’s and doctoral degrees from OSU. In 2000, Dr. Major was selected as the Superintendent/CEO of Pioneer Technology Center, the position held until returning to Meridian Technology Center in November 2008 as Superintendent/CEO.

Throughout his career, Dr. Major has participated in many local boards as well as state and national associations. He has held offices in the Oklahoma Technology Center Superintendents’ Association, the Oklahoma Council of Local Administrators and the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technical Education. Dr. Major was selected to participate in the first National Leadership Institute sponsored by the National Centers for Career and Technical Education and is currently serving as the National President of the Administration Division of the Association for Career and Technical Education.

Assistant Superintendent
Dr. John HowellDr. John Howell brings more than 30 years of educational experience to his role of Assistant Superintendent of Meridian Technology Center. Dr. Howell is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Administration in 1974, and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education in 1977, a Master’s in Agriculture Education in 1987 and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1998.

Dr. Howell taught Agriculture Education in Owasso and Collinsville before joining the Oklahoma Department of CareerTech in 1982. During his 12 years with the state agency, he served as the Executive Secretary of the OK State FFA Association, Assistant State Supervisor for Special Programs, Coordinator of Conferences and Students Services, and State Coordinator of Area Technology Schools. In 1994 Dr. Howell accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent at Autry Technology Center. Ten years later, he assumed this same role at Meridian Technology Center.

Chief Financial Officer
Beth BuchananBeth Buchanan joined the Finance Department at Meridian Technology Center in 1997 as Chief Financial Officer. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Oklahoma State University. With more than 20 years in the banking industry, Ms. Buchanan has held positions as Assistant Branch Manager, Management Trainee, Internal Auditor, Accountant, Controller, Vice President/CFO, Chief Executive Officer and bank President.
