Bus Driver

FULL-TIME, PART-TIME, AND SUBSTITUTE BUS DRIVERS

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Must currently hold a valid Oklahoma commercial driver’s license (CDL) with both (P) passenger and (S) school bus endorsements.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a valid Oklahoma School Bus Driving Certificate.
  • Oklahoma School Bus Driver Health Certificate Annual Physical, or United States Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical every two years, required.
  • Must have an excellent current and annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Must submit to criminal history record check, and initial drug and alcohol tests. Must consent to random drug and alcohol testing as well as Clearinghouse queries as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the DOT.

Working Relationships

Maintain positive rapport with all Meridian Technology Center staff members, specifically transportation personnel, students, and high school administrators.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Job Summary:            

The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and consistent transportation of students to and from the Meridian Technology Center (MTC) Main Campus located in Stillwater, OK.  The Bus Driver picks up and drops off MTC students at a partner high school within the MTC district. While students are in class at MTC, the bus driver is assigned a department to work in during class times. Additional driving days may be necessary for student activities, summer camps, etc.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Observe all City, State, and Federal Laws relating to school buses.
  • Meet established time schedules, follow established routes, and drive safely and legally.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure a safe operating condition of the bus and compliance with mandated guidelines.
  • Inspect the bus daily for mechanical safety and report any deficiencies to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Keep the bus in a clean condition by sweeping and washing the bus inside and out.
  • Know steps to take in an emergency and have a basic knowledge of CPR and first aid.
  • Keep all certificates, licenses, and physical valid.
  • Work effectively with others to disseminate information and solve problems.
  • Account for the behavior of all students on the bus.
  • Assist students and other passengers with safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport as well as during emergency situations.
  • Make all reports on time as requested. Report observations, incidents, and/or accidents to the Transportation Supervisor to ensure the safety of all passengers.
  • Report to the proper officials any traffic violations that affect the school bus and its passengers.
  • Attend any in-service training that is required by the Transportation Supervisor, Executive Director, or Superintendent/CEO.
  • Abide by all policies and procedures adopted by the MTC Board of Education.

Physical Demands:                               

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel, enter, and exit a vehicle without assistance and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

The Bus Driver will be evaluated on the previously listed responsibilities based on Meridian Technology Center's Performance Review Guidelines. This evaluation will determine salary increases and career advancement opportunities.
