What about Geometry and Biology?

The academy does not offer these courses at this time. Students in the academy will work with their counselors to get these credits at their high school.

What is the average class size in the Pre-Engineering Academy?

Class sizes contain no more than 16 students at this time. This means instructors are able to devote more time to each student.

What about transportation to and from the Pre-Engineering Academy?

Meridian provides bus transportation between the high schools within our district and Meridian Technology Center.

How many credits will a student earn at the academy?

The student will earn 4 high school credits each year: 1 math credit, 1 science credit and two credits from engineering courses. The first two engineering courses, Introduction to Engineering Design and Principles of Engineering, meet the state’s requirement for 2 units of Computer Science.

Can a student be in band/orchestra and still enroll for the academy?

Yes, since band/orchestra is usually in the morning, the student attend the academy in the afternoon.

Can a student play a sport and still enroll in the academy?

Yes, they would attend the academy as a morning student if the team practiced in the afternoon.

When should a student apply to the academy?

Priority enrollment is February 1. This allows the faculty time to review all applications and schedule interviews. Due to the increased interest in the academy, all students planning to apply should do so early in order to ensure a seat is available.

Why should a student apply to the Pre-Engineering Academy?

The academy is designed to prepare students for college through a project-based curriculum that combines engineering courses with advanced academics.
