Meridian and the Stillwater Chamber Partner for Pages: A Book Club for Leaders and Readers
August 6, 2021

Meridian Technology Center and the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce have selected the newest books for Pages, a book club for leaders and readers.

Pages is a discussion-based book club designed to encourage participants to strengthen their leadership skills, both personally and professionally. Participants will receive a one-page summary of the selected book’s core themes and a list of questions that will be discussed during the meeting.

“Whether you’ve read the full text or you’ve just hit the highlights, you’ll leave Pages sessions with ideas on how the content can be applied to your unique leadership journey,” explained Workforce and Economic Development Project Manager Marcy Luter.

On August 26, Pages will cover “Poke the Box: When Was the Last Time You Did Something for the First Time?” by Seth Godin. This selection dares readers to do something they’re afraid of – even if it’s a small first step, according to Luter.

“If you’re ready to dive deep into why continual innovation is so critical to thriving in this fast-paced world, you won’t want to miss this discussion on how to connect this book’s principles to your everyday life,” she said.

The October 28 Pages session features Annette Simmons’s “Whoever Tells the Best Story Wins: How to Use Your Own Stories to Communicate with Power and Impact.” Attendees will explore how they can narrate their personal experiences, as well as use borrowed stories to demonstrate authenticity, build emotional connections, inspire perseverance and stimulate the imagination.

“Whether you are leading a presentation, in a department meeting, or having lunch with a potential customer, this book explores how to relate a compelling story to the topic at hand and make an invaluable impact that could not be made otherwise,” Luter said.

Pages sessions are held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Stillwater Public Library. Registration is $15 per session and includes lunch. The book is not included. Book titles are available for purchase at your favorite retailer, including Bliss Books & Bindery in downtown Stillwater, or you can check them out from your local library. Stillwater, Perry and Guthrie public libraries have access to titles.
